All for the Game - Jacque

All for the Game by Nora Sakavic

Recently I was recommended a book series by a friend called All For The Game by Nora Sakavic. This series follows Neil, a young runaway, who is finishing his senior year of high school and enjoying playing exy, a sport made up for this universe, when he was approached by the infamous exy team, the Palmetto Foxes. They are known for only taking in players who are from bad situations and need an escape from it. Neil is frightened when approached by them. His father is a part of the mafia which controls the exy board, and he’s been running from his father his entire life. He tries to run once more, but eventually is caught and agrees to joining the Foxes for what he thinks will only be one semester.
It follows his journey as he reflects on his past and solves the problems of the present. The main problem is that he is hiding his true identity from not only the whole world, but his teammates, including ex-Raven member Kevin Day. The Ravens are owned by the mafia, the same Mafia who bought off the exy board. They have a reputation for being the number one college-level exy team in the United States, and Neil and Kevin know first-hand how they hurt people to get there. They quickly learn how to survive in a world with the Ravens, and Neil must learn how to get out of trouble while being hunted in the public’s eye.

It's a trilogy, with the first book being called the Foxhole Court. This is a great book series that includes some of my favorite tropes such as found family and adds some really good queer representation book as well as handling a lot of serious issues. I don’t suggest reading this book if you are sensitive to some topics including: addiction, self-harm, sexism, homophobia, domestic abuse, murder, overdosing, mafia violence, torture, guns, drugs, sexual assault, and a lot of violence. If none of those things will affect you negatively,  then I definitely suggest giving this series a try. I give this series a 9 out of 10 stars. I would recommend this to anyone looking for a new book to read. Happy reading!

  1. Wow! Definitely did not expect the senior in high school plot to turn into a mafia one?! I think having representation in books is SO important and you describe this book's plot very well and interestingly. I will be adding this to my read list!
