Wayne Rooney my decade in the premier leauge. By Matt Allen and Wayne Rooney
My Decade in The Premier League by Matt Allen and Wayne Rooney is a great book that covers Wayne Rooney's decade in the premier league, one of the hardest leagues to play in profesional soccer. Wayne Rooney was a profesional soccer player and was one of the most well-known English soccer players mainly for how he is the all-time scorer for Manchester United and England. This book talks about his experiences in the Premier League and what it was like playing and succeeding in one of the most difficult leagues. Rooney joined Everton's academy at the age of 9 and made his debut for Everton at the age of 16 where he played for 2 more years when he was bought by Manchester United where he went on to win trophies for the club and scored a lot of goals. Something that was talked about in the book was how the fans of the teams he played would boo him every time he touched the ball. This aspect of soccer is not really touched upon when professionals write their autobiographies, and this shows why it's hard to perform well in these leagues because it is not always about how well the players on the other team are. Another topic touched upon in this book was expectations. When Rooney was signed to Manchester United he sold for a total of 27 million pounds. This transfer raised a lot of eyebrows because of how young Rooney was. Rooney however still managed to succeed even with a lot of pressure and skepticism, and on his debut for Manchester United, he scored 3 goals and assisted a goal making him the youngest person in the UEFA champions league to score a goal.
Overall I really enjoyed this book because of how well written it was. The structure starting in chronologically and shows as he grew older the different experiences he had playing in the Premier League, ranging anywhere from the pressure of the game and performing well for himself, to performing well for the fans. If you enjoy reading books about soccer players and if you enjoy watching soccer games that are played in big leagues I highly recommend this book to understand what goes through the mind of the players that play in these big leagues.

Hey Leor! I know about Wayne Rooney from a while back but never knew there was a book on him! Wayne is a legend at Manchester United and it's cool to see a book written about him since he is quite an underrated player. Thanks for the review Leor and great job!
ReplyDeleteNice Review Leor! I don't really know much about soccer, personally, but your review gave some good insight on Wayne Rooney. Great Job! --Willie
ReplyDeleteGreat book review. It seems like an interesting book as its an autobiography but shows what the premier league is like. It seems unique as it gives insight into what a life of a professional soccer player's life is like.
