Cristiano Ronaldo the biography by Guillem Balague
Cristiano Ronaldo the biography by Guillem Balague, is a book about the famous soccer player Cristiano Ronaldo. Unlike other biographies about soccer players that mainly talk about an aspect of their career that made them improve a lot, this book talks a lot about Ronaldo's life from before he started playing soccer and up until the move to Juventus (although its kind of old now).
The author starts off by writing about Ronaldo's life as a kid. The author mentions that Ronaldo's family struggled with alcohol and drug addictions, and the author also mentioned that Ronaldo also had an addiction that was very beneficial to him, the addiction to soccer. As a kid, Ronaldo would skip a lot of school and play soccer on the streets for hours upon hours, a couple of driving factors to this was because of his love of the game, and that he used to get bullied in school for his accent. Later on, he started to play for a Portuguese club named Sporting CP, where he played for the academy teams. After playing for a couple of seasons at Sporting CP he got the attention of one of the most famous soccer clubs in the world, Manchester United. He then started to play for Manchester United for 6 years where he won many trophies under the club's manager Sir Alex Ferguson. In 2009 Ronaldo left Manchester United to play for a club named Real Madrid where he started to play some of the best soccer he has played in his whole career. He won 4 champions leagues and won 3 of those back to back in 2016-to 2018. In 2018 Ronaldo moved to a soccer club in Italy named Juventus. Ronaldo didn't perform as well at Juventus compared to his days in Real Madrid, so he decided quite recently (2021) to move to Manchester United. Ronaldo is (at the time of making this blog) currently in his first season at Manchester United. In Ronaldo's career (of the time of making this blog), he is considered one of the best players in the world and has also won 5 Ballon d'Or (best player of the season), 4 Champions Leagues, and has scored over 800 goals in his career.
I recommend this book to anyone who is interested in soccer and wants to know how the best of the best achieved that status. This book was really interesting and anyone interested in soccer should definitely check this one out.

Nice review, Leor! I think it's interesting that this book talks about Ronaldo's childhood and youth clubs because it makes you understand the environment which shaped one of the best soccer players of all time. It's especially sad reading this, however, knowing that Ronaldo will probably retire in the following couple years.
ReplyDeleteGood book review! I don't know too much about Ronaldo but the book seems quite interesting as it covers his childhood. I find that learning about a famous athlete's childhood is interesting.
ReplyDeleteInteresting review! I like how you were able to briefly summarize this book, which covers a long and ongoing career. I have learned many different facts about Ronaldo's childhood and career that I did not know before. Nice Job
