The Generosity Habit - Review by Richi
The Book:
The generosity habit is a book made by Matthew Kelly and is based on many small quotes that start out with generosity is … structure. There are three parts to the book. The first part starts out explaining seventeen parts of generosity and lists them as “the world needs changing”, “life to the fullest”, and “who is in need?”, to name a few. The second part of the book added a hundred things you can do to change the life of others, and real quotes made by famous or respected individuals throughout history. Some quotes that stood out were “Kindness is the language which the deaf can hear and the blind can see” by Mark Twain, “As human beings, our job in life is to help people realize how rare and valuable each one of us really is, that each of us has something unique to all time. It’s our job to encourage each other to discover that uniqueness and to provide ways of developing its expression.” By Fred Rogers. The third part of the book is a section where the reader can write down insights and reflections about how the reader interpreted the book. Overall, this book reflects the philosophy of the generosity habit shown by simple acts that can be conducted daily. It’s also a good invitation to display what others would be grateful for as part of a solution. I thought this was a very slow-paced book that is simplified but gives a useful method. I feel like any of these paragraphs can be applied daily. I highly recommend it to guide your day and make you a generous person to others.
Great review! I liked your description about each section. It sounds like those divisions allow for good flow in the book. I am not a huge fan of poetry, so this book does not sound especially intriguing, but I might read a few chapters just to see.
ReplyDeleteNice Job! I enjoyed your brief review. I like how the are separate sections in the book which help the reader compartmentalize.
ReplyDeleteGreat review! I think this book has a lot of great lessons that anyone could apply to their daily life. Personally I find the themes in this book to be extremely important, thanks for bringing them to light. I liked how you reviewed each section of the book separately, it can sometimes be easier to read nonfiction based on sections. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteNice job! I agree, I think this book could be very helpful to an individual's personality in being more giving and generous. If more people read this book, the world would surely be a better place. I look forward to reading this in the future!
